Via Pontica

The Via Pontica cross-border marathon takes place annually and offers a unique running experience through Bulgaria and Romania. Participants run along a scenic route beside Lake Durankulak, the northern Bulgarian beaches, and the Romanian coastal settlements of Vama Veche and 2 Mai, crossing the border without stopping. The event includes distances of 28 km, 16 km, and a 2 km children’s race, with the finish on the beach near the village of Krapets. It is organized by the Zелена стъпка (Green Step) club, which promotes a healthy lifestyle and adventure sports.

Children run free of charge and do not cross the border into Romania. Cutoff times: 4:30 hours for 28 km and 3:00 hours for 16 km. The fee includes fruit, water, electronic timing, bus transport for the 16 km race, medical assistance, and toilets at the start/finish. Changing distance is possible for a fee and payment of the difference in fees. T-shirts with an original design are available for an additional charge. Two running distances (16 km and 28 km) and a 2 km children’s race; transport to the start points; registration and fees; prizes for the top three finishers; coastal routes and a crossing of the border into Romania.
